I see that Buena Vista is issuing a 2 disc version of Disney's PETER PAN in France which has, as one of the extras features, the complete 1924 silent version of PETER PAN! Strange because the 1924 version has nothing to do with the Disney studios. France always seems to get better versions of Disney animated features than the UK.

    Well 2 points:

    (1) The Paramount Peter Pan is long since entered the public domain (Kino have released a version available on DVD)

    (2) I understand Disney did purchase the rights to Paramount's film before work on the animated Peter Pan began - presumably Disney wanted to make sure Paramount couldn't re-release their version to 'cash-in' on the success of the Disney film (note: Development of the animated Peter Pan initially began before WW2)

Not having seen the film, I don't know, but perhaps the animated version takes just as much of it's inspiration from the film as much as from the stage play?
