Does anyone know if Disney has plans to release "Escape to Witch Mountain" and "Return from Witch Mountain" on DVD?

I just saw these on the Hallmark Channel, and remembered how enjoyable they are... if you can forgive the 70's era effects. "Escape..." was one of the first live-action movies I ever saw in a theater... prior to that I only saw Disney's animated fare.

Ahhh... the memories...

I'd rather not pick it up on VHS if there is a DVD release in the works...

I sure don't know if there are any plans, but I would pick it up in a heartbeat if it were released. It is a childhood fave of mine. I taped it off the Disney Channel when I was like 6 or 7 years old. I love it. :)

I sure hope it sees a DVD release someday soon!

I highly suggest you read the book (the book sequel is a novelization) and see how much better the story was before they made it "Disney's".

They're both being released in France this July

Escape to witch moutain
1.85 – 16:9 english, german and french 5.1 ; subtitles english, netherland, german and french - no forced subs.

Return to witch moutain
1.75 – 16:9 english, german and french 5.1 ; subtitles english, netherland, german and french - no forced subs.

However both are as barebones as Jack Skeleton. :frowning:

Come join us and become multi-region - the whole world is our playground! :)

Yep... read the book. I liked the Disney features as well, though... probably because I saw them first, and because of WHEN I saw them. Good performances by the kids (Ike Eisenmann and Kim Richards) and the adults, as well (with the exception of Bette Davis in the sequel...) It was great fun to see Ray Milland, Eddie Albert, Donald Pleasance and Christopher Lee in their roles.

Hopefully this will sell well in France, and Disney will see the light for other regions.

BTW, if you're interested in a U.S. release, Amazon.com is collecting e-mail addresses and will forward them onto Disney, if you sign up to be notified if / when released. If they get a big response... who knows?

Oh Sweet!!

While I wish they were Region-1, I will definitely pick them up. I am region-free on my laptop, and will have a region free standalone player in the next several months.

Oh happy day!!

See, I am obsessed with collecting all the movies I liked as a kid.

Yippee!! :D

I have Escape on CED videodisc, issued in 1981, and strangely has the scene with the harmonica and puppets cut out (must have been music rights.) What's funny is the scene is later mentioned in the movie, but makes no sense if that's the only version you've seen.
