Here's the trailer.

I'm not excited or anything, but I gotta say, as unnecessary as this project is -- and as bad as Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland was - this actually does not look as awful as I expected. Wonderland set a low bar, and because Burton directed both, I think that is the most obvious comparison, rather than Disney's other recent remakes.

I'm not a huge fan of this version of Baby Mine.

But it also doesn't look like this has very much to do with the animated version at all. Obviously there will be some elements of it that have to carry over, but it feels very different. Who are these kids who are acting as Dumbo's cheerleaders now? There's no sign of Timothy Mouse, who was so essential in the original.

If the plot ends up being substantially altered, maybe that is for the best, because it wouldn't really be trying to do the animated version over again beat-for-beat. Maybe this will make it ever so slightly less useless than it sounds.

And, while I certainly was not asking for this to be done at all, I still think that if they're dead set on extending the brand, a remake is a better/less offensive idea than this:

I actually really want to see this if only because it's my favorite Disney movie, though considering the animated version is primarily anthropomorphic animals I was curious what kind of direction they were going to go with. This first teaser doesn't look bad. I'm planning on taking my son to this for his first in-theater film. He'll be 4 in December so hopefully by March he'll be at a level to know how to behave in a theater.

Was that Danny DeVito as a circus manager again, just like every Burton movie ;)?
That said, I actually liked the live action Jungle Book (even it it was mostly CGI), and also Beauty and the Beast, so maybe this can show Burton being good again, who knows? It's been a while since he really dazzled us, hasn't it?

Yeah, but Burton's last classic Disney remake was Alice in Wonderland...which made a ton of money but was a terrible garbage movie. Disney has been on the upswing with the remakes you mentioned, but those were under different directors so I'm still a bit iffy about this one.

I mean, I *loved* Big Eyes, which I think is one of his best films and doesn't get anywhere near as much credit as it deserves. But it's also a more straightforward period piece and is decidedly outside of his "weird" wheelhouse. Miss Peregrine's Home For Particular Children was a lot of fun too.

I think Dumbo (the character) looks creepy in this image. Hopefully he looks better in motion. Trailer tonight.

Well, this could look worse than it does. But I can't say any of this footage makes me want to see the new film either.

I've yet to see a Tim Burton movie that wasn't heavier on design, mood and atmosphere than story. That said, I'll see a movie with Burton interpreting an early 20th Century circus with all its inherent weirdness. It's the weirdness he excels at.

I disagree. I think it looks great and will be a huge hit. Get ready for Dumbomania. :)

I agree. That trailer was great. If it's any indication of how the actual film will play I think Disney will have a big success on their hands.

I expected nothing, and that trailer really surprised me. It looks pretty good!

Not to sidetrack, but I am little surprised Disney is cool with Eva Green in this. Don't get me wrong, I think she's fab. I'm just thinking her turn in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For might have somehow injured her chances of being in a Disney family rated movie. Glad I'm wrong. She must have a great agent. :)

A role is a role, and actors take all kinds of them. I don't see why Disney should be concerned about past roles in other films that they weren't involved in. Why would that even enter the thought process in casting this film? If the actor in question were a porn star, then maybe, but Eva Green is certainly not that, but is a highly-respected member of the acting community. There's no reason why Disney shouldn't be proud to have her appeared in one of their films.

Plus, stars who work with Disney have appeared in other non-family films before, sometimes in close proximity to their Disney appearances. Disney released Oz the Great and Powerful with James Franco the same month as he appeared in Spring Breakers, which also starred Vanessa Hudgens, who did High School Musical for Disney. And that's just off the top of my head. Why should it be an issue?

I guess that deal with Gunn kinda made me think about Disney as being especially judgemental. Sure it's not exactly the same thing, but it certainly gave me cause to believe that when given the option to work with an artist with even the slightest hint of a controversial past, they might just choose to work with someone else.
