Dish digital audio... is it ever Dolby Digital? 5.1? (1 Viewer)

I get digital audio fine from my dish receiver (508). It's connected to my receiver with an optical cable (only), and the digital light on the receiver lights up. But, none of the movies I've recorded seem to be in Dolby Digital, only PCM.

Can someone with Dish confirm this? Do you ever get Dolby Digital? If you do, is it 5.1?

Thanks!

Marc,

I have a 501 and I get 5.1 on HBO East and West (and only on some movies and HBO Pragrams the last one was the Michael Keaton Iraq film)

Oh and some pay per view is also DD 5.1

Good luck,

Michael

As are the HD channels, when 5.1 (as opposed to DD2.0) is broadcast.

Not directly relevant for you, as you don't have HD capability (yet).

Make sure you set the audio options in your 508 to output both pcm and DD. I've some receivers default setting to pcm only.

Showtime and HBO east and west, as well as their respective HD channels all regularly broadcast in DD. However, not all movies are in DD5.1 so you may have to check around a bit. Like Martin said, make sure your audio options are set to pcm and DD.
