So my HR20 will become a paperweight.

It's either all or nothing.

I'm just going to switch over to Verizon Fios TV when my
Tivo stops receiving all the programming. I hear that Verizon
might be supporting Tivo thought it means I might have to
buy or lease a new unit.

That's BS I have a lifetime subs. right now. Once I am forced to upgrade i will have to pay for DVR service.

With DirecTV, your lifetime is tied to your account. As long as you have a valid DirecTV account, you don't have to pay a DVR fee.

I agree with the Tivo users comment. But if you have Directv HD and want a DVR your are stuck with their offering. I especially miss the Tivo to Go capabilities.

Does anyone know about plans to activate the USB port on the back of the Directv PVR? Right now I have a Digital Aslyum 2 TB USB storage attached to a dedicated Tivo to Go PC and would like to be able to archieve some of my high def shows to it as well (once the USB port is enabled).

After one of my two, HR10-250 crashed for good, I called DirecTV and decided to change out both DVRs to the new HR20-100 DVR and a 5 LNB dish for a total cost to me of $199. Not a bad deal in my estimation for two new DVRs and I figured I beat the rush when those new sats. are launched next month and come on line in September. Also, I'm hoping to have my local channels in HD sometime this summer.

Robert,

Can you tell me a bit more about the HR20-100?

I can already guess it's HD-DVD capable, but probably
without TIVO software.

Please provide us with a full review once you receive it,
as I really don't think any DVR can be as good as the TIVO
brand. Unfortunately, DirecTV no longer supports TIVO and
this is the equipment all of us are going to be faced with
upgrading to.
