DIRECTV HD Resolution - Question (1 Viewer)

Have searched Directv's site and have looked on several forums. Even contacted Directv by telephone and didn't get a satisfactory answer.


Is Directv capable of transmitting a signal with resolutions as high as 1920 x 1080?

DirecTv has some "On Demand" channels they say are broadcast in 1080p.

But their regular tv viewing of HD channels is like everyone else........720p or 1080i. That's how the channels are sent to DirecTv, so that's how they broadcast them.

Both the on-demand as well as some of the PPV channels are 1080p.


But all of the 1080i and 1080p channels are 1080x1920.

The so-called OnDemand can be 1080p because they are, actually, downloads stored on the DVR's hard drive.

Suppose you have no DVR. Can you not watch a movie in 1080p?

Yes. There select PPV movies in 1080p. All you need is a D* HD receiver.


I was browsing the guide last night and saw about 20. Each movie about 4 times so there were 5 movies. I'll pull up the guide in a little while and confirm the information.
