Fellowship of the Ring: A
Two Towers: A-
Return of the King: A
Heavenly Creatures: B+/A-
Dead Alive:B
Bad Taste: C+ (haven't seen it years, though)
King Kong: B+
Actually, I'm inclined to give high marks to most every film, with the possible exception of his splatterfests. I'm not sure what pictures of his proved that he was competent to direct LOTR, but I'm pretty sure that it wasn't on the basis of "Dead Alive." Possibly Heavenly Creatures. I found that film to be pretty amusing, though perhaps my ability to laugh at matricide is itself disturbing.
I liked King Kong. Usually I go into such films with the expectation of seeing a good "genre" film. But King Kong, IMHO, was a damn good film, period, mostly on the strength of Sirkis's work.
After watching Dead Alive, I really value my home theater. I had first watched it at college, on an ordinary TV, and so the film seemed rather a pileup of increasing grossness. But after hearing the soundtrack reproduced with some precision (my brother wanted to see the film after hearing me mention a scene featuring a lawnmower), I realize that the soundtrack is often what ties a gorefest together. I had sort of the same reaction after hearing Sam Raimi's "Evil Dead".
The LOTR trilogy is, of course, a masterpiece, although it doesn't seem to hit the right emotional impact until after Gandalf dies.
I haven't seen Meet the Feebles, or the Frighteners.
