You know I'm one for hyperbole, but I think Miyazaki may have the best track record of any director I've seen. He's definitely in my top five.

Whisper of the heart, which he wrote and produced is as superb a film as I've seen from him, I was stunned at how subdued and elegant it was, a very unique film (and quite powerful on a personal level as well).

About time you got with the program Bill. The two totoro's on my shelf are pleased to see a rare 5-star ranking Now watch Porco Rosso!

Agreed Adam, about Miyazaki's track record - even his first film, Castle of Cagliostro, is a very good comic book action/adventure story if lacking the layered depth and humanism of his later work. As for Whisper, I agree with your comments though I'd still place Totoro and Spirited Away above it as Miyazaki's finest achievements.

So much life, joy and love in Miyazaki's animation, though if people had problems with the abruptness of the ending of Howl's Moving Castle, they'll really have problems with Ponyo.
