direct tv mpeg 4 (1 Viewer)

Does anyone know when Direct Tv will begin offering mpeg 4 equipment and service. I'm holding off on my satellite purchase until the new equipment is available. I thought it was supposed to be available in Sept. Then it changed to Oct and now Nov. Does anyone know if it will be this month? I'm getting a little impatient because I hate my cable company and can't wait to cancel. I'm pretty sure that my market (D.C.) will be one of the markets that receive the initial offering.

It depends on your location, the avsforum has some discussion regarding timing. I am in rural SW Missouri and know I will be one of the last. It is going to be used first for local HDTV channels if I recall correctly and eventually all HDTV will be MPEG 4.
