Can anyone tell me what the approximate dimensions are for the mounting base of the standard 18 inch direct TV dish are?
I need to make a wood mounting plate for my balcony and want to know what size it needs to be to accommodate the screw holes. Length, width depth? (how long are the screws etc).
Also about how heavy is a dish and arm? just estimate out of curiosity, 10lbs? 20? 30?

I think the size of the mounting plate varies by manufacturer. I can't answer your question because mine is mounted on a piece of pipe stuck in the ground. The weight is < 10 lbs.
