I wanted to get a direct tive receiver for my bed room, but was wondering if I would have to run two seperate lines into it. if so, can I just use a spliter, or do I need to use a multiswitch like the Terk BMS-34?

Terk, JVI, Eagle Aspen, Spaun all make reliable switches. If this is your only receiver, then you don't even need a switch. Just two runs of coax from the dish.
