Digital Receiver Connections

    Does anyone know if there are any protocols running through the optical connections on receivers? I understand its audio, is it just an audio bitstream? There has to be something there controlling the bits from point a to point b.... Not even for an FCS? There has to be some error correcting checksum or something doesn't there?

    However, it appears to be one way so perhaps thats not necessary? An IP network guy who's just curious.

    no, it's not like an IP network where packets are addressed. It really is just a raw stream of data pouring off the disc. If there's a read error you'll hear it.
