    hi guys this is my first post since joining your forum, i am a newbie to all things technical and last week i purchased a lg 44" dlp rear prj tv and jvc th8sw surround system. i have a couple of ques and if someone would take time to answer them it would be v appreciated.
    1. i was under the impression my tv was HD ready, apperantly this isnt so and on the front of the tv it says 'digital ready' what does this mean

    2. the pic resolution is 1024 x 576, i have an xbox (uk one) and change the settings so it is now HDEF, most games play at 480i, the pic is crystal clear the other setting is 720p will my tv work with that setting as the res is 1024

    3. my surround system has dolby pro log II in either movie or music mode. i have tried this and it doesnt sound much like surround sound, in fact it sounds like all channel stereo which is another option why is this

    4. if a dvd says DTS i believe this is proper surround sound, if a dvd or xbox game says dolby digital is this the same as DTS and able to give me proper surround sound

    i am sri this is very long winded but i am on a steep learning curve [​IMG] . could you please answer in a very easy to understand way as i have been looking/reading around the net and what i have read goes over my head

    hard to say....

    The panel itself is not HD, that requires a ****x720 or higher pannel.

    Only the real input specs will tell us weather it can recieve an HD input though. Can't play those games in 480p???

    DTS and DD 5.1 are two different things. Only true stereo 2 channel sources will give you any sort of Dolby ProLogic Surround sound. Some surround can be simulated off of just plain stereo sources.

    If you judging surround on Brocast or Cable TV, the source all the way back from your box all the way back to the broadcast source.

    DMD Main Terms Definitions

    1. Blemish
    A blemish is an obstruction, reflection, or refraction of light that is visible, but out of focus in the projected image, under specified conditions of acceptance (in section 3). It is caused by a particle, scratch, or glass defect located in the image illumination path. As such, these artifacts either reflect light, or shadow light. Consequently, blemishes can minor, depending on their intensity on the projected image.
    Note: Cleanable substances on the DMD glass surface—such as dust, residue, or etc, are not returnable as blemishes
    2. Dark pixel
    A dark pixel is a single pixel or mirror that is non-functional (stuck) in the OFF position. It appears fully dark on a white screen.
    Note: It is possible for a pixel to appear slightly darker than its neighbors on a white screen, but be fully functional. These are acceptable if viewed on a white screen, and will be judged by the criteria in a section 3.
    3. Light pixel
    A Light pixel is a single pixel or mirror that is non-functional (stuck) in the ON position. It appears fully bright on a black screen.
    Note: It is possible for a pixel to appear slightly lighter than its neighbors on a black screen, but be fully functional. These are acceptable if viewed on a black screen, and will be judged by the criteria in a section 3
    4. Unstable pixel
    An unstable pixel is a single pixel or mirror that does not operate in sequence with parameters loaded into memory. The unstable pixel appears to be flickering asynchronously with the image.
    5. Adjacent pixels
    Adjacent pixels are defined as sharing a common border or common point. A group of more than two adjacent bright, dark, or unstable pixel defects is also referred to as a ‘cluster’ defect.
    6. Blue test screen
    This screen is used to test for Major Dark Blemishes and Dark Pixels. All areas of the screen are colored at a specific blue level, based on a standard 0-255 RGB scale:

    Test Conditions
    . TI performs image quality acceptance testing on TI’s specifically designed Mustang/Matterhorn DMD
    equipment. If the DMD is judged to complete this test successfully, it is acceptable.
    . TI understands the customer will perform image quality testing in their own PTV application. Incoming
    test condition must be mutually agreed to between customer and TI before initial DMD acceptance
    testing begins.
    . TI recommends cleaning the DMD before installation to the projector, according to the instructions in the DMD Handling and Cleansing Document (TI drawing #4144804 ).
    . Projector degamma correction shall be linear.
    . Image noise reductions algorithms ‘Blue Noise STM’ and ‘Boundary Dispersions’ shall be set to ‘off ’.
    . The diagonal size of the projected image shall be at minimum 42 inches (107cm)
    . The projected image shall be inspected from a 63 inch (168cm) minimum viewing distance.
    . Projector must be properly focused on the DMD array as shown on the screen.
    . Testing time is limited to 20 seconds per screen.
    . Refer to Table 1 for acceptance criteria, in the specified order:
    1 .This specification applies to the active pixel area (addressed pixels) of the DMD only. All other defects outside of this area are acceptable. Also in this manner, customer projection optics must control lights effectively. Light reflecting from anywhere outside of the active pixel area is not a basis for DMD acceptance.
    2. All cosmetic DMD defects (scratches on the external DMD surface, for example) will be judged using the above test conditions on the projected image only.
    3. Projected blemish numbers include the shadow of the artifact in addition to the artifact itself. (Count = 2)
    4. The projected image shall not contain any blemish more than 4 inches long measured on a 42 inch (107cm) diagonal screen.
    Any defect not mentioned in the above criteria shall be acceptable, unless customer and TI mutually agree that it is a problem
    for the marketplace.
