Duh, I just found out I need to remove the plastic cap on the end of my fiber optic cables. No wonder it wasn't going in. Here's another question. The plastic covering on the component side of the optical jack seems to swing away when I plug the cable in. Is that how it should be or do I need to remove it?

The older ones snapped out, but the newer ones just swing out of the way. It prevents you from losing the cap, which is a good thing.
