Is there any way for me to connect my computer, which has a digital coaxial output to my portable minidisc in order to get a digital recording? Just got off the phone with sony, and of course they were no help.

Yes, it does. Just recently I've found a cheap converter that I'm looking for, but I'm not quite sure if I'll reap the benefits of an optical connection, like automatic track marking.

You need a converter for coax to optical and an optical cable. Whether or not it will track automatically has everything to do with your software and whether it sends track marks through the digital out and nothing to do with the signal carrier itself.
