I recently bought a new lcd big screen. It has built-in hdtv and is 'digital cable' ready.....i only subscribe to regular old analog cable, but after setting the tv up and going thru the auto-program, it is receiving 60+ digital music channels, and probably 40 more 'digital' movie channels...channels like 113.70...etc...how in the world is this happening...is this just a screw up by the local cable provider? I dont get these channels on my other tv's...

The fact that the TV is "digital cable ready" means it has a standard digital cable tuner built in. You cable company obviously does not scramble these channels, so you are able to tune them in with your "digital cable ready" TV. You do not get them on your other TV's because they only have analog cable tuners.

that makes sense...and i dont mind the 'free' channels, but there are some x-rated stuff that shows up that i'd rather not be getting...i cant believe the cable company is not scrambling that junk....

You should be able to V-Chip that stuff. It will never show up if you turn the V-Chip to the right setting.

You can setup parental controls to block it or most tuners have a option to skip channels or hide channels.

Enjoy and don't tell your cable company. Just lock out your channels via the tv setup menu.

the parental controls are setup based on the rating of what's being shown...unfortunately, all of this 'free stuff' is coming thru as 'unrated', so i cant use the parental control to block the adult stuff...and since the channels it shows up on seem to bounce around, i cant block it by specific channels...

No big grin there if you have kids who use the TV.[IMG] [IMG] Or if you don't like prn yourself. Not very nice when the in-laws are in town channel surfing and they come upon that stuff. [IMG]

If you don't want the porn and the ratings won't block it, you have three choices.

    (1) Disonnect the cable and get nothing. This isn't as bad as it sounds. If your TV has the right kind of tuner and you're in a good area you may be able to get your networks over the air with an antenna. No porn there.
    (2) Call the cable company and ask what to do about it. They'll probably want to install their box and charge you and they may very well scramble what you're getting for free now.
    (3) Find the group of channels that they broadcast on and delete them all from your menu. This may work, they may only use about 20 or 30 of the same channels for this purpose.

Good luck, I hope it's limited to a certain channel block.
