I just had a Scientific Atlanta 8000 installed to get digital cable with pvr. It works great. The installer programmed the new remote to control my Toshiba 50H82, so I can turn them both off/on simultaneously, etc. When the power is turned 'off', both the tv and cable box both appear to turn off, however the red led still glows red on front on the tv. I have to use the tv remote to make the red led go out. Should I continue to do this step, otherwise the red led means the tv is always 'on' (and bad for the set)? Should I use the cable remote and not worry about the red led left on when otherwise tv appears to be off? Any experience or thoughts are appreciated.

If the red light is on, the TV is still on and even if you can't see a picture, the CRTs are still 'working'. Soooo, it's definitely a good idea to make sure the set if off when not in use.
