Different subwoofer types (sealed, ported...) (1 Viewer)

What are the pro's and con's of sealed vs. ported vs. passive radiating subwoofers?

Why would I tend to prefer one over the other?

Is there really a sonic difference between them?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!

I really think it comes down to how well they are designed and built, not whether sealed or ported. A couple of generalizations are that ported subs are often designed to maximize output, sometimes compromising sound quality while sealed boxes are often designed to maximize quality while maybe not offering as much output. Remember, these are generalizations. The best subs I've heard (ACI Force and Titan, and REL Strata) have all been sealed.
