Just out of curiosity, I wonder how this will work out? Dire Straits is signed to Warner Bros. in the US only; anywhere else on the planet, they are in Universal Music's stable. Suppose Mark Knopfler decides it's time to release Dire Straits' entire catalog on a high-rez format, which format will he choose? Will we get Dire Straits on DVD-A here in the States? And everyone else gets Dire Straits SACDs?

No, nothing is indicating Dire Straits is coming to hi-rez anytime soon. This is just for discussion's sake. I believe artists like Genesis and Phil Collins are in similar arrangements.

It's a very common arrangement, particularly for "smaller" bands.
