    Hello,

I am trying to build my new HTPC. I would like to have 7.1 channels.

My question is if there are any sound quality differences between coaxial and optical SPDIF.

    Thanks,

    Andreas

i tried both on my kenwood 7080, hooked them both up at the same time and switched back and forth with a touch of a button, and noticed no difference at all. maybe on a high end system you would.

For multichannel home theatre audio (DTS, Dolby Digital) neither has an advantage in terms of sound quality. Buy whatever is cheapest or most convenient (based on your number of available digital inputs/outputs).
