Hello everyone.

I have question. I already did some searching but didnt find the answer I was looking for.

I have a JVCthd50 HTIB that I got for a really good deal a few months ago.

Im into the caraudio game. And I just upgraded my substage and now I have a single 10in. Kappa DVC 4 ohm laying around.

I looked up and online manual of my HTIB and it says the sub out is 3ohms. I can only wire my Kappa to either 2 or 8ohms.

Do you think I could get away wiring up my kappa to this reciever? The sub is came with sucks balls.

Wire the sub up in series for 8 ohms. Most of these HTiB's won't have the low impedance protection found in high end receivers. Instead of temporarily shutting dow, they might release the magic smoke. Once the smoke is out you can never put it back.

What is your proposed sub design? Ported? Sealed? PR? Do you have any simulated response graphs from WinISD or Unibox that you can post?

Im just leaving it in its 1.0cft sealed box.

So you think I should do 8 ohms? Wont it get get significantly less power though? I just want something better than the crappy JVC sub.

Could you buy a separate amp and just run a line-level signal from the receiver. Powered subs are usually preferred to take some strain off the receiver . . . this would also make your ohm concern a moot point. Of course, this assumes that your HTiB has a subwoofer output.

I have been running it wired at 2ohms and have had no issues as of yet. Then again, I havnt done anything to really stress it. So you think there wont be much of a difference at 8ohms?

I was thinking about possibly buying a cheap car amp, LOC, and make a powered sub. I would just use an old computer PSU as the power source.

Your receiver may work fine at 2 ohms but I would never take that chance. The only reason I run my subs at 2 ohms is that my amp is a pro model and designed to run at 2 ohms. Running it at 8 ohms will not stress your equipment at much.

The old car amp in the house thing. That comes up every so often in the different forums. If you go cheap like you describe then you have no benefits over what you already have. If you do it right then you have spent twice as much money as going with a quality 120v AC sub amp. You could use a Scosche LOC from Wal-Mart and an A-500 to run your sub. That's way more power than you need but it is just one of many examples.
