I was just wondering, did the fact that both Toshiba HD-DVD players are "Made in Japan" influence you at all into buying a Toshiba HD-DVD player or adopt HD-DVD over Blu-Ray or at least make you think your purchase didn't need an extended warranty because it must be a solid piece of equipment being made in Japan?

From my own experience, I didn't buy an extended warranty because it was made in Japan, not ONCE have I had a product screw up on me that was made in Japan.

I'd love to hear other owners thoughts. [IMG]

Nope. And I bought the 4-year extended warranty.

Remember when everything was made in Japan? Nowadays it seems everything is made in China. [IMG]

    Greetings

How times change. In the early 70's ... late 60's ... Made in Japan was associated with Junk ...

In the 80's ... Made in Korea was associated with Junk ...

Thinks change ... There are many more things we have made in China than we might suspect.

    Regards

With new technologies, combined with expensive equipment, I tend to go for extended warranties (otherwise I avoid them like the plague since they're basically legalized theft--I know, I used to write them for a company). The fact it was made in Japan really never registered but I doubt it would have changed my mind.

Nope. But like Steve I paid the $39.99 for the 4 year coverage.

Which, interestingly enough, now sells for $79.99.

I noticed that it went up several weeks after I bought mine. They wised up.

I did not notice it was made in Japan and at $80 opted to not get the extended warranty (I don't think it even lasted for 4 years).
