Diana Krall is a vey sultry, smokey sounding jazz singer. She's hails from Nanaimo, B.C. not far from here.
If you like Jazz music she's the one. I recommend the Love Scenes DTS CD.

Patrick, thanks for info. Like Kevin, I have heard a lot about Diana Krall and was thinking of posting a similar question. Does she have any recordings on DVD-Audio or SACD? I haven't heard of any. How are the surrounds utilized on the DTS CD? Are you in the middle of the ensemble or is a concert effect used? Thanks in advance.

IIRC, the dts CD mixed her voice in the left and right mains predominantly, with just a hint in the center channel. The rear speakers were more for ambience. Not a bad CD. Also look out for "When I Look In Your Eyes" by her.

Keith,
Patrick Sun did a good job describing the DTS CD mix. In reality the regular CD sounds very good too so if you like two channel stereo its just fine.
As for DVD-A and SACD, no there are not any available yet for Diana Krall. But, I'm sure there will be over the next 12 months.
Definitely go out and get her CD's. They are very good. As well, if you like that type of music take a look at another Canadian singer/group, Holly Cole or sometimes found under Holly Cole Trio. Her rendition of I can see clearly now is quite good.

And she has a NEW CD (The Look of Love, already at #5 on Amazon) to be released in 19 days, but who's counting The cover picture is her hottest one yet (love those pumps).

Love Scenes is supposed to be released on DVD-A either at the end of 2001 or early 2002.

Enjoy those CD covers, because she's definetely not that attractive away from the cameras.
They do alot of touch-up work with the CD pictures.
Anyways, I'm looking forward to her new CD... I love all her material. Quite the talent she is.
Also check out Jane Monheit. She's comparable to Diana Krall (although I enjoy Krall more). She has a sweet voice, and for a bonus she's very attractive on covers and in person.

If you can, listen to the 2ch mix of "Love Scenes". I have both it, and the DTS version, and after the gee-wiz factor of the DTS mix has worn off, I now have to agree with Mike Knapp. "Sounds like she's singing in a bathroom"
If you watch enough PBS you are bound to catch atleast 1 Diana Krall Jazz Concert a month, she seems to always be on there. I personally found out about her while watch a Monterey Jazz Festivle DVD at my local HT shop while waiting on my salesman to become avaliable. Well that was over year ago and now I own all her CDs and must say she is one of my favorite artist in all forms of music. I must admit that I have a bootleg promo copy of The Look of Love and man thats one great CD! I will be buying it on opening day.
DK and Holly Cole and Rebecca Pidgeon are the pinup girls of certain audiophile circles. That is to say that their music is frequently used as 'reference' pieces for system and component evaluations. Personally, I like DK and HC quite a bit. RP is available in several hi-rez formats from Chesky but her music doesn't catch me the same way as the other two.
For those of you in the Toronto area, Diana Krall will be holding a free "concert" with a selection 4 songs from her upcoming CD "The Look of Love" at Union Station on Sept. 19th.
She'll be backed by a 25-piece orchestra. http://www.canoe.com/JamMusic/sep4_krall-cp.html
She'll also be performing a full concert at the Hummingbird Centre on October 26 & 27.
