James- Actually, I have also heard the same thing. (Yes, even from the pubs' here cross the pond!)
Denon out-does Sony, Yamaha, Onkyo, Pioneer for 2 channel sound.
But Marantz may be better.
(I still be a waitin' for a possible AV9200 pre/pro from Marantz...)

I don't know if you are aware of this but, the 5803 has duel multichannel inputs for SACD and DVD-A.
