The Upgrade features for the European model of the AVC 5800 have been released and guess what? The so called "Denon Link" is nothing else than a real 24/192 digital connection for DVD-A in Stereo and of course also for 6 x 24/96 DVD-A multi channel. Transfer rate up to 1,2 Gbps via RJ45. The first DVD Player that will have this connection seem to be the upcoming Denon DVD A1 flagship DVD-player.

    Oliver,

Unless this has some proprietary digital connection I don't think we'll see the link actually used until the content providers decide on a copy protection scheme for the digital link. Which of course means another firmware upgrade for the 5800.

Looking on the bright side, maybe there is a proprietary link like the Accuphase SACD transport/decoder has.

where did you find that information? Neither denon.co.uk nor denon.de had anything extra about it.

Take a look here and use a translater. The connection is not a dream, it is fact. Not firewire for Denon, but RJ45.

The lower cross-overs are also something I noticed.

Chances are that CES might bring more details about their A-1 (or whatever the respective names will be in US and Europe) DVD-player too.

It would definitely be a proprietary interface which would lock you into a forthcoming Denon DVD-A player. But!!!! It is a solution to a big problem. And when..... there is a finally a standard interface, they may offer an upgrade to it.
