Just picked up the Denon DVD-1600.
I had the choice between the DVD-1600, DVD-1200, and the Pioneer Elite 45A.
Went with the Denon 1600 because of it's proven superior picture quality and DVD-A quality. I quickly went against the Pioneer since I wanted a player with Faroudja chip and I don't have any SACDs anyways. I've just heard so much positive stuff about the Faroudja chip that I really had my heart set on it.
Decided against the DVD-1200 due to the fact that it's based on the DVD-900 which had a slurry of problems. Many say the the DVD-1200 is to replace the 1600, but I don't see how that can be when the 1200 shares the same chasis as the 900. Wouldn't logic lead one to believe that the 1200 is simply an upgraded 900 with DVD-A capabilities. I'm not saying the 1200 isn't going to be a good player, but it simply hasn't been proven yet.
With the prices online the 1600 is at right now you people in the US should be jumping all over them. A sad fact that I live in Canada and most retailers won't ship here, or if they do, the shipping and handling charges are outragous. I ended up paying about $400 US for the player which is a touch more (about $35 US extra)then if I ordered from etronics.com but at least I don't have the hassel of ordering from another country and warrenty work will be much easier since its local.
I'd like to hear what owners of the new 1200 have to say and how it compares with the 1600. Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to demo them side by side.
