It's at my local tweeter, and it's an open box special. Is this a good deal? Is this a good player? Also - is it a progressive player?

Jon, the Denon '3300 is a first-generation DVD-Audio player, and as such, was Denon's first model. It is based on the Panasonic DVD-A7 and Technics DVD-A10, which were Matsushita's first-generation models. Denon upgraded the audio section of Matsushita's players. The '3300, like Matsushita's first DVD-Audio players, is an interlaced model. Overall, the '3300 got average reviews in magazines I read awhile back. $279 is a good price, however, just bear in mind that the '3300 was released in 2000, so the demo unit has probably been sitting around awhile. If you are interested in pursuing it, give it a good inspection and see if they will set it up in a soundroom so that you can test it out. Also make sure that Tweeter's 30-day return policy applies on an open-box item. It should. Best of luck.
