Has anyone seen it yet? It appears that the Denon gets hit for displaying the chroma error. This would make it the first player where this error is brought to light in a major magazine. (Not including their DV-38a review where they mention a problem, but seem unsure what is causing it).
If not for Don and Stacey, where would we be right now? Those guys really do deserve a lot of credit for nailing this problem down.
Hopefully now, manufacturers will get a clue and stop shipping us players that replicate this eye-sore.

I dont think this will happen until the market demands it. Right now people accept these issues because they dont have the knowledge or they dont believe they can see it, or they just feel that the chroma bug is not a major issue.

I think this is great news and a step forward and bringing one of the last problems of digital video compression to the attention of the manufacturers.
Hopefully, this will be the beginning of a revolution of sorts. Then we'll have MANY more players to choose from so that they can meet more needs.

According to a review by Tech TV's Fresh Gear (from June 12, 2001), the color correction issue in the Denon DVD-2800 should no longer be a problem:
"When we first looked at the Denon, it had a couple of inherent defects that required fixing. Denon issued retailers a CD-ROM disk, which cleaned up a problem with the screen saver and with a color correction issue. DVD-2800 models shipped now no longer have any of these problems."

Color correction may not be an issue, but that has nothing to do with the chroma error.
There is no fix for the decoder in the way it upsamples the chroma signal. It is still very much there as the decoder is not software based and thus not 'upgradable' in the sense of 'flashing the BIOS.'
Hopefully Denon, and other makers, will get a clue as it seems their customers are starting to get.
(BTW Sound & Vision reviewed a 'fixed' model.)

Agreed. Let's hope the manufacturers won't get away with this. Somebody should start a website that warns people of this specific problem, and make a list of the players with the chroma bug. Maybe a petition would be in order.
Just wishful thinking...

Allan,
The closest to that would be our series of articles / benchmarks of DVD Players, at

We've got an article explaining the chroma error, and list all the players we've tested as part of the benchmark as either having (or not having) the chroma error. Here's a link to the article, and the table is at the end of the article:

We haven't been able to test every player (obviously) but will have data on about 18 more players when we begin publishing our benchmark data from our June event.
