Hello All,

After much research I think I have narrowed my receiver purchase choice to Denon and am contiplating if purchasing the AVR-997 is worth the $400 higher price than the AVR-887. The 887 price is around $700 and the 997 is around $1,100.

I will be using the receiver mostly to watch DVD movies and some music.

Any opinions?

Thanks!

Jeff

Are you sure you don't mean the AVR-987? The AVR-987 is for all intents and purposes, a "remodeled" AVR-2807 (this is similar to what Yamaha does with "HTR" and "RX-V" series components). The three-digit model numbers are intended to be sold in large chain outlets, whereas the four-digital model numbers are intended to be sold through specialty dealers.

The AVR-887 is essentially an AVR-2307CI without custom integration features such as 12V triggering and RS232 control for $100 less.

The AVR-2807/987 is an excellent receiver in its price range. What it gives you over the lower-end model besides a little more power is better audio features like Audyssey MultiEQ, a direct analog mode (useful for 2-channel music listeners), AL24 processing on the front L/R channels.
