Denon AVR-2802 = Denon AVR-982? (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,
My boss at work runs a business on the side building PC's for home and small business use. He can get Denon AVR-982s for wholesale through his distributor. Is this the exact same receiver as the 2802? I can easily give up the snob factor of owning the 'real' thing for the savings, but I want to be sure that they are the same unit (aside from cosmetics).
Thanks for any help,
Mark

Yes the Denon 2802 and the Denon 982 are the same. My manual states on the cover "Denon AVR-2802/982." I just bought my 2802 about 3 weeks ago, and I really love the sound. Also, Sound and Vision in their December 2001 issue gave it a great review.

Where did you get those price quotes? What distributor is that, and can you get them for the rest of us:D

The 982 and the 2802 are NOT the same. I have the 681 which is the equivalent to the 1601, except for amplifier ratings. Check the amplifer specs and %THD in the .pdfs on Denon's site, you'll see what I mean.

My 681 sounds really great however, much better than the low end DE series Sony I had.

My 2 cents

Jon

specs on the wholesale models are different, yes. But to the naked eye, it's just another way of saying we have more watts when in truth, the amps are exactly the same. It's a marketing ploy.
