I would assume this would be the replacement flip panel on the front of the 5800 to show the new surround formats contained inside.

    Thanks Mark!,

I had not seen those pictures yet.

John,,That would be a reasonable price

    for this upgrade.

I wonder if it includes the Burr Brown 192khz/24bit DAC's that the 5803 will incorporate.

This would be more internal than the board itself right.

    Mark,

Yes it is a factory upgrade. It will not be available for a DIY installation.

    Trevor,

I didn't think to ask that question -- and my time was way too short at their booth. Denon had a number of interesting products that I didn't get to fully check out.

    Regards,

John: thanks for the additional info. I've got a AVR-5800 so the upgrade is more important than the new receiver and I can live with the downtime while the board is swapped.
Good to see a picture of you up there too! [IMG]

    Michael or John,

Did Denon say anything about providing a shipping case for the 5800 like I read in the Japanese announcement of the upgrade? The original packaging of the 5800 is woefully under spec'd for the size and weight of the beast.

    Trevor,

In the link Mark posted, it does mention that the video and DACs cannot be replaced in the 5800...regardless, this is everything I had hoped for and more. $500 is a bargain to updated a receiver every couple of years, IMO. Thanks for the pics and links guys. I think this is a very important step for Denon and sets a new standard for flagship receiver manufacturers. Those of us that purchased this type of component will not be SOL when new processing technoligies come around. There are many seperate pre/pro manufacturers that still haven't given any word to their customers on an upgrade path. My 5800 continues to put a smile on my face every time I fire it up...

    Patrick,

I thought I read that Denon will provide flight cases for the 5800 for those that want to ship it in for the upgrade. I saw the info over at the flagship forum. If they do not, I see it as a small investment to buy one for the shipping. I agree, the box is not the best protection for this monster.

    Jeremy,

I thought I read that too but I thought it was a confirmation for Japan.

DVD-9000 is a new DVD player that Jeremy is going to buy.[IMG]
It's Denon's newest model, but not yet available.
Correct me if I am wrong here.

"I had Burr Brown DAC's in my Flagship NAD and they were very sweet."
The very reason I've been considering the Denon DVD4800, Burr Brown...All around[IMG]
....then folks start discussing the 9000!!!! It's a lovely world in HT.
My wife and I have finished the new HT room and I do believe that some new, shiny Denon gear is in order[IMG]

Rest assured I will also have that shiny new Denon pieces in my rack someday also. The dimensions for the 5803 are identical to the 5800 so I won't have to change my faceplate on my Middle Atlantic rack.
