I've sold my Denon 3801 (which I only had for 6 months and was very pleased with), to buy a new receiver with DPL2..

The denon 3802, because both the Yamaha RX-V 1200 AND the onkyo 797 "only" have 6 channels of ampl and I still have 7 speakers!

THX still seems to me like an excuse to make more money (in the case of onkyo).

And the denon has the THX-ish cinema-eq anyway.

Which leaves one thing. Will denon bring out a 3803 soon, this time with DTS 96/24, or will the denon 3802 last at least a year?

And is DTS 96/24 really something to wait for?

that's interesting because some guy on another thread that the 5800 will be succeeded by the 'soon' upcoming 5803.

so I'm kinda wondering myself whether the lower xx03 versions will be available soon.

I wouldn't expect an AVR-3803 receiver to be available from Denon for awhile yet. The '3801 came out last fall and was replaced by the '3802 within only the past couple of months. Receivers usually last about a year before they are replaced, so look for a '3803 (or whatever Denon will call it) around August or September 2003. Is it worth waiting for? Who knows? We can always speculate that the next generation will be worth waiting for, but eventually, we just have to buy something. There is never a "right time" to buy electronics, whether it be a receiver, computer, or whatever, because obsolescence is built into everything. Whatever we buy now will be superceded by something else next year, and whatever we buy next year will be superceded again. Don't you just love technology? [IMG]

Wait, so does all this mean that there is going to be a new 2803????? I am in the market for a 2802, I thoguht it just came out. What could they possibly add to the 2802/3802? By the way, all the Denon 2802 and 3802 have 96khz/24bit decoders in them presently. Should I wait to see what the 2802 comes out to be, because I may have my new receiver for a while, ie 7-9 years?

The only thing Denon needs to do is add variable cross-overs for each speaker pair to make it unbeatable value.

    Cheers,

The 2802 DID just come out.
I didn't say there was going to be a new line from denon right NOW, I just thought the Denon 3802 came out pretty darn quick after the Denon 3801.
I was used to this happening in the computer industry, but it seems the Hi-Fi/AV industry is starting to get more and more quick bringing out newer "versions" of its products as well...
(I think I started a panic wave throughout the Denon community [IMG] )

Does anybody in the movie industry has ever hinted anything about DTS 24/96?[software]

    Or how about music?

Is it just me, or does anybody else think Denon needs to add a 430x model to fill the gap between the 3802 and the 4802? Seems like a pretty big jump there; I would think Denon needs to have something cheaper than the 4802 that has THX and a few other high-end features to compete with Onkyo and some of the others in the feature wars.

If I could buy the 4802 feature-set with a little less power and a more reasonable price, that would be perfect.

But that would screw up their whole nameing scheme:

    160x

    180x

    280x

    380x

    480x

    580x

Doesn't Denon release their new products in the September time frame? When I acquired about the the 3802 before it came out, there Reps told me they normally introduce new products around that time. Why would it be spring of 2003?
