What do the owners of the denon 3802 think of thir remote? I am considering buying the mx-500 but don't know if it will be that much better to justify buying it. Thanks!

I use a MX500 with my 3802 and I find it much better and much more user friendly than the remote that comes with the 3802.

I never even gave the 3802's remote a chance. When I got my 3802, I was already using a Marantz RC-2000 MkII and recently switched to an MX-500.
There is just no comparison. With the MX-500, you can fully control every piece of gear (at least what most of us have. :) ) The Denon remote will only be able to learn the most basic features. (As an example, my JVC VCR needs 8 unique keys to program it for timer recording. And, each key is clearly marked with what it really does. There is no way that the Denon can do this!)
Go to remotecentral.com and check out the MX-500 review and Home Theater Master forum. Good info.
