As another thought, at what point should I become concerned about heat in the unit?

I have the 3802 placed in the lower-right side of an Ikea Magiker TV unit.

I originally had it with about 3" of clearance above it until it hit the next shelf; this didn't seem to be sufficient, so I removed that shelf. Now there is about 9-12" until the next unit (Panasonic RV32 dvd player). This should be fine, right?
