Would anyone with a Denon 3802 mind commenting on its 7.1 performance in movies (specifically, what it does with a DD-EX signal)? I know for 7.1 it's a choice between DTS-ES or their "Widescreen" mode, but I wondered if Widescreen could informally decode Dolby Digital-EX.

Thanks in advance...

Brian,it's my understanding that widescreen is a DSP only. And not a very good one at that IMHO.If you want to decode a EX disc, simply press auto to get DD,and press the 6.1 button on your remote.

WIDESCREEN mode is an alogrithem for making a 5.1 source (DD, DTS 5.1) playback as 7.1. I think it's also possible to make it play 2 channel as 7.1, but I've never tried that on my 4802 and if it could, it wasn't designed for that anyways.

Like everyone else said, just avoid using Widescreen mode. Keep it in auto and you'll love the sound.
