well i've been hearing bad things about this faroudja chip and it not being designed right, but i've heard good things about the denon 2910 and its quality being good, but it also has this faroudja chip, should i be concerned? what type of displays are the faroudja chips best matched with? well im basically looking for a player to best match my sony kv-hs420 and price is no longer an option as im willing to save up for the best so that i dont have to keep returning dvd players every so often.

Keep in mind the 2910 is NOT the 2900's successor. If you are concerned about audio quality go with the 3910...

my 2 cents

Try using the Search function. There's already been plenty of discussion about the problems with the Faroudja deinterlacer found in the 2910 and 3910, and there's really no need to rehash the whole thing again. You can also find TONS of information on this subject over at AVS Forum. Good luck.

Allan -

I have the same Sony TV and just got the Denon 2910 to try it out. I am underwhelmed by the upscaled picture, but the 480P DVI setting looks good. Due to the banding, I just don't see the upside to using an upscaling DVD player on a non 16:9 set. Even on the Sony with the image zoom feature that is supposed to compensate for the banding at the 720P and 1080 DVI settings, the image quality is significantly degraded.

I am still not satisfied so will be returning it and looking at other options. Maybe the Cambridge Audio 540 D. Let me know what you decide to do.
