Looks like there are two online retailers that are having a price war on the 2807. Every day they have each undercut the other and it's currently at $889.95.

Is there some sort of protection one could expect by going through Amazon to buy this unit?

I'm pretty sure that buying from one of those sellers would void your warranty. However, it's $200 cheaper than an authorized dealer, so you could afford up to $200 in repairs without losing money.

Find a local dealer who will give you a discount. I frequent a local Hi Fi Buys and use the same salesman. I never pay retail, usually 10% off is the standard. That'll bring you to within $100 and give you peace of mind.

Check and see who it is actually coming from when you order through Amazon. It may be coming from an authorized dealer.
