I am considering picking up this reciever for 6.1 discrete decoding. I just want to confirm that this unit can decode the following formats.

    DTS ES 6.1 - discrete

    DTS ES 6.1 - matrixed

    DD EX 6.1 - matrixed ( e.g. The Phantom Menace )

Also, would you be able to drive 2 rear surrounds with this reciever ( possibly in series )

Thanks for any comments and advice.

I've had my Denon 2802 since Mid- October. Definatley grab this bad boy. It has pre-outs for 7.1 configuration. I had it set-up in 6.1 but I had to move furniture and back to 5.1. Power is definately underrated.

    Yes, the 2802 can do:
    DTS-ES Discrete 6.1
    DTS-ES Matrix 6.1
    DTS NEO:6
    Dolby Digital EX
    Dolby Digital
    Dolby ProLogic II
    5/6 Channel Stereo
As for the surround back, there are only 6 amplifiers so you can only power 1 surround back from the 2802 itself. However, it has two pre-outs for surround back, so with an external amp you can have true 7.1.
