I am in need of a quick decision. I can either get a refurb 1604 or a near new 1802 for the same price. Is there any one or two things that make one stand out from the other? I know the 1802 has pre-outs but does it have all the decoding the 1604 has and is that really important. It is about 60/40 movies to music if that helps at all.

    Thanks!!

I can't comment on the 1604 since I never listened to one.
I own an 1802 and when it comes to movies it's ok, but for the music, the pre outs are of great help, since the 1802 itself is pretty poor in this area.
I once compared the 1802 to 1602, and the 1602 was pretty poor, bad SNR and the dynamics weren't great either.

Some months ago I compared the 1802 to the 2803(I had it for a week, and then shipped it back). There is a small differene for movies, but bigger for music(still it loses when I use external power amps for the 1802, as I have now).
