Just a quick question from a newb. I've found a deal on a brand new 1801 ($270) for a little less than what I can find for the 1602. I realize that the 1602 is part of the current line that replaced the 01's but does anyone know if there is a significant advantage to the 1602 over the 1801? The main reason I would need a 1801 is that, like the 1802, it has more digital inputs. Any recommendations welcome.

    Thanks,

    John

I like the 1602 because it fits my rack. [IMG] However that is a fantastic price for the 1802. The 10 extra watts aren't significant, but it does have pre outs for the front three speakers, and a couple extra inputs like you mentioned. In this months "What Hi Fi" magazine, they preferred the 1602 over the 1802 and 2802 for music reproduction. Beats me why, but if they say so, it must be true.

    Russell,

I believe John said it was 270.00 for a new 1801 NOT 1802. I saw the 'What hi-fi' article as well on the Denon line and feel that they gave the 1602 the higher rating not because it sounded better (which it doesn't), but because it's a few hundred dollars cheaper than the 2802 (which has the advantage of adding an extra discrete channel) and sounds virtually identical. From what I've heard, you really don't start noticing the sound/sonic differences until you move into 3802 territory. Modelsn 1602-2802 are basically carved from the same stone. I speak as a 1802 owner, but soon to be a 3803 owner (when they arrive).

    Reggie,
You are right, he did say 1801.:b Gotta have DPL though, so I would stick with an 02 model.
