    Which one? I don't know anything about the Planar but I have heard the Hitachi is a very nice 50 inch model and it should do very well with both HDTV and DVD.

    Actually, after looking around the Dell site, the Viewsonic 42" caught my eye. The 50" plasmas, EDTV or no, are out of my price range.

    AFAIK there is no plasma under $5000 that can handle true HD resolution.

    I know that there are displays under $5000 that can handle a true HD resolution of 720p (DLP), but are there any displays (>40") under $5000 that can handle a true HD resoution of 1080i (if so, could you name some of them)?
