My Toshiba 1700 began glitching after only 8 months of use. I've decided to get another player instead of getting the piece of junk fixed.

I don't want to spend a whole lot, and don't need a progressive scan-based player.

I've narrowed my choices down to the Panasonic RV32 and the Sampo DVE-631CF. Can anyone help me decide which of these is the better value and most reliable.

Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Jordan, I'm in a similar boat. I'm moving an older SD1600 down into the basement to be my wife's workout dvd player and am getting a replacement. From what I've read at various forums and Sound and Vision reviews, the Sony models do the best when it comes to in-player letterboxing - also known as downconversion to display on a 4:3 no-squeeze available television. Sound and Vision also had a recent review of the Panasonic model you're looking at which you may want to read.

cheers,
