Hey, I like Death. Well, their newer stuff anyway. I have Individual Thought Patterns, Symbolic, and Sound of Perseverance. The later the material, the better the music. I think Perseverance is one of the best metal albums ever.
I'm very picky with concert DVDs, as I only own two. But I would consider a Death DVD if the sound were really good, if at least for a laugh and a cool way to show off my sound system.

Who is currently in Death? I believe Sean Reinhart played drums for them (I dig Sean's playing). Also Brad do you know if Sean Malone ever played bass for Death. Sean is an incredible bass player (Cynic, Aghora, Gordian Knot).

John, both the Seans from Cynic played with Chuck on the Human album only. Gene Hoglan played drums with him on Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic. Gene then moved on to team up with Devin Townsend (the musical genius/god).
I forgot the name of Chuck's new band that came out about 2 years ago. The little bit that I heard of it, it was totally different from Death.
Also, has anyone else heard anything about Chuck's brain tumor?

Hmm, I just might have to pick of Human if the Seans play on it. I have Cynic: Focus. It's really cool, except the vocals are a bit too funny sometimes. "VEIL OF MAYA..."
I didn't know about Chuck's tumor. I'm sure there's a web site out there that keeps info on this stuff.
    Who is Devin Townsend?

Devin Townsend is a Canadian that originally got his career started by singing on one of Steve Vai's earlier albums. He writes both the lyrics and music for all of his projects. Most of them cannot be found in any store. His music is metal sometimes, rock sometimes, death sometimes, progressive sometimes, he is AWESOME. My favorite musician next to Dream Theater. Also, Gene Hoglan is on almost all of his albums, they are good friends.
Some of his bands (he creates a new band for each new album he comes out with):
    Strapping Young Lad - City
Strapping Young Lad - Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing
    Ocean Machine - Biomech
    Physicist
    Infinity
    Terria
Punky Bruster - Cooked on Phonics (joke Death Metal band)
Zimmer's Hole - Bound by Fire (joke Death Metal band)

Chucks new band is Control Denied. Some of the recording for their second album is done but its being delayed by Chucks therapy.Theyve been auctioning of alot of his equiptment on ebay to pay for treatment costs and its cool others have gotten involved. People from Ozzy to Chuck Billy(Who was also diagnosed with cancer and gave 1/2 of the money raised at his recent benefit show($26K) in LA, to the Schuldiner family).
Good to see some Death fans here. I was able to meet the band during the Sybolic Tour. My brother is a drummer and couldnt make the show so Gene took out a business card and wrote "Cory, Dude, where the fuck ar you? PS Single Bass Sucks- Gene H"
I LOVE Death. I recently bought the CD and was planning on getting the DVD. Could you give us some details about it.Also, I thought it wasnt gonna be available in stores, whered you get it? A portion of the DVD sales will go to Chucks Medical Fund.
I just put up a Support Chuck link on my webpage yesterday.
If you type "Support chuck schuldiner" or "Chuck schuldiner medical fund" on yahoo, youll get some results that can give you some info.

Too bad they didn't have Painkiller on there.
There is a black guy playing the drums, I've never seen him before. Plus some real ugly guy playing bass or guitar (I could only watch one song because my wife is around and didn't want to watch it) he must be from Obituary because all those guys are UGLY.

    Hey Guys-
Did you know that there is another live Death DVD available? You can only get it through Nuclear Blast (the record company), but I suggest if you like Death at least take a look. Also, 2 dollars of the purchase go directly to Chuck's fund for his brain tumor. I don't have it yet, so I am unsure of the tracklist, but I think it is similar to Live in L.A. I know it was recoreded during the tour for "The Sound of Perseverance", just like the other one.
I didn't realize this board had so many metalheads on it! I thought I was the only one in the world to own the Death Live in L.A. DVD. Guess not... It is nice to see that some bands I like have DVD's comming out. Anyone pick up the Emperor "Live Ceremony" DVD yet? That is another I recommend.
By the way, Richard Christy is a drum GOD (along with Sean Reinert).
    James
P.S. Here is the link. It is called DEATH: "Live in Eindhoven" http://www.nuclearblast.de/death/

Two mistakes that I made in some of my earlier posts:
    1. I saw and met Death on the Individual Thought Patterns tour not the Human tour. I don't even know why I confused the two.
    2. The drummer was not a black guy, but a white guy. How I confused that, I don't know. Not that it matters, but it does for the sake of identifying him.
For those of you who have the Live in LA CD, what is the TV Theme they play right before they go into Pull The Plug? It's the last song and it's pretty funny that they do that and go into Pull The Plug.
I finally watched the whole DVD today. Very cool. I couldn't imagine only having the VHS version because the DVD lets you pick songs by advancing chapters, a very cool feature when you want to hear a particular song. No more fastforwarding or rewinding!!

    Brad--
I think the theme they play before "Pull the Plug" is from "Charlie's Angels".
    I really like that transition.

James, I also like that transition and thanks for the identification.
    Which reminds me...
In my last band we played the opening acoustic-like part to Smells Like Teen Spirit. Right when the drums kick in and it starts with the "heavy" part, we kicked in to one of our songs. It was funny because a)everyone thought we were nuts playing a Nirvana song, b) everyone was expecting us to play the whole song and our use of trickery fooled them! As a side note, the song we went into of ours was called, "Fools."

Its always fun to do that. Our band did all originals with the occasional cover. We did it twice in our band:
1."How Many More Times" before we went into a rare "When the Leeve Breaks" cover.
2.Poisons "Unskinny Bop" was the intro to a song called "Poser Song" which was funny. Our guitarist would start that and everyone join in.Right before the first verse we'd go into our song.Depending on who we were playing for - people would perk up (especially the women)and cheer or theyd get hostile before we went into a barrage of riffing(the song made fun of Hair Bands).
We were a band that didnt always take things so seriously sort of like a NOFX attitude. We did lots of goofs though - The Munsters Theme,Tequila(which always got the place jumping)Barbes and Barnes "Fish Heads" sped up, etc
My friend knew a DJ for a college station and he played a few of our songs one night. He was told if he ever played "that shit" again he was fired. But alot of people called in asked what band that was [IMG] We looked at that was a huge accomplishment.
God, I miss playing in a band.Heres a few pics from the Good Ole Days http://www.geocities.com/tarim69/picpage3.html Im the guy playig the bass in the 3rd pic.
I'll have the Death Live in LA DVD Monday or Tuesday, the owner of a local Metal store ordered it for me. Cant wait to see it.

    Jon,
My old band was serious about music, but we had a stage show that forced "the people" to keep coming back. One time our guitar player dressed up as a hunter, our Mexican singer dressed as a Mexican Bandito, our bass player was "evil", I was a sailor, and our other singer was a "psycho." Lots of fun.
Glad you have the Death DVD on it's way. You'll love it.
