Why would you want to go out and see only 35 minutes of the movie? I'd rather wait and experience it as a complete entity upon the release of the whole thing.

The same logic that got me to go to Waterboy just to see The Phantom Menace trailer. Same logic that got me to take my son to see the Guardians of the Galaxy preview. Both were a lot of fun and a bigger memory than seeing the entire movie.

If you're excited about something, it's a chance to get a taste before the main dish is served. YMMV

They mention that this is the first R-rated film released by Disney. Not sure if they mean actually under the "Disney" banner, but the company released numerous R-rated films under the old Touchstone Pictures banner.

I belief that it is meant to mean "under the Disney banner". I think a better way to put it would be "the first R-rated film with the Disney brand".

I think all interested parties understand that Marvel is a subsidiary of Disney now. So this is sort of splitting hairs. But I don't expect this to go out with the "Disney" name on the front in terms of the Disney castle logo. They've never used that for Marvel properties even when they are PG-13. This will have the Marvel Studios logo at the front as all of the other MCU titles have done. I expect the only mention of "Disney" branding will be at the very end of the credits where they usually say "Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures" or something to that general effect.

It Is more accurate for articles to say that this is the first R-rated film that is being released as part of the MCU. They're really only doing that because they inherited the franchise from the ashes of Fox and it was too big to shut down. I think Deadpool will continue to be an outlier in this regard, and we're not going to see stuff like Brave New World or Thunderbolts next year going out with an R rating.

I don't think that anyone thought otherwise. If there are any further Deadpool movies, I would expect them to be R-rated, especially if this film does as well as expected. And if there were any further Wolverine movies (with someone other than Hugh Jackman), the same. But I certainly wouldn't expect any other mainline MCU films to be R-rated.

I would not want to see that either. Deadpool is unique because of the language and humor, so it works, but every other R-rated superhero movie seems to me to pander to fans who just want to see a lot of blood and guts. Sure, the language may have been appropriate for Logan, but the violence was way over the top. And all of the R-rated DC Universe films (including the R version of Batman v Superman) were like an immature person’s idea of what a mature movie should be. Stop and think: an R-rated movie with Batman and Superman? Did they not know who the audience for those characters has been for 80 years?

I also thought the R-rated version of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was gratuitous, and added nothing to the story. And just recently, I saw a comment from Dave Filoni who said he’d consider an R-rated Star Wars? Why? I hope it never happens.

Certainly, the MCU has been doing pretty well in the realm of PG-13 thus far. I've never felt like any of the MCU films would have really benefited from more violence or foul language. There is no reason to go beyond PG-13 because being able to do the things that go beyond PG-13 would not improve those movies anyway.

But content that would get an R rating is inherent to what makes Deadpool Deadpool. They need to go with the R because sanitizing the character wouldn't be the same character. I credit Disney with realizing this and letting Marvel go ahead with this movie.

However, I don't think that would make sense for Star Wars or The Hobbit. The latter of those was originally written as a children's novel and should therefore be adapted in a manner that is safe for children to watch.

Yeah, being the only Marvel movie that has R rated elements is why the comedy in Deadpool works for the audience. If Thor or Iron Man or Black Panther were breaking the fourth wall or had graphic violence or had lots of profanity, Deadpool would be much less funny.

Funny thing is that the other night my wife and I were watching Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and it occurred to us that the same applies to that film. Ferris is the only one who breaks the fourth wall, and it would not have worked if anyone else in the film was also doing it.

Plus if Deadpool winds up in an Avengers film, you can bet he'll comment on screen about being held to PG-13 violence.
I hope this doesn't happen because I like my fourth wall firmly in place.

I think breaking the fourth wall works for the very specific tone of Deadpool, but I don't think. it works within what has been established in the MCU since Iron Man. (Yes, I know She-Hulk broke the fourth wall -- and literally the Disney+ menu screen -- and I hated It there as well.) I think it breaks the original deal with the audience for a cohesive cinematic universe. The problem with breaking the fourth wall in the MCU is that when you break it in one project, you break it for the entire franchise, and I really don't like that. I don't think something like Endgame has the same level of inherent gravitas if they know they're in a movie and it isn't being treated as real.

If I ran Marvel, Deadpool and Wolverine and any further Deadpool films would continue to exist in their own continuity as a separate entity without merging with the proper MCU. I don't think this is where they're actually going. But that would be my approach and strong preference. I said the other day that I respect Disney for allowing Marvel to make this movie in an R-rated fashion because that is inherent to the character, and I hold to that opinion. I do not think that integrating Deadpool into the MCU is a good idea. Because they are doing this whether I like it or not, I certainly hope I'm wrong.

That being said, I am looking forward to seeing the movie and will go in rooting for it.

Popcorn tin and cup collectors can get DP&W items at Cinemark starting next Tuesday.

I’ll definitely be getting a tin and a cup. Doesn’t look like they have the more crazy ones that have been leaked but those are really more gag items than usable.
