To those of you that have players already, do any of you (or can any of you) hookup your audio using analog 6 channel cables between your player and receivers. Has anyone tried to play the lossless audio format over this connection yet and if possible, can it be tried?

    Regards,

I am using the analogs and tried the TruHD on Phantom. Meh. When I went back to the 5.1 mode it sounded a tad better to me. But this isn't my main HT receiver, as that's in my HT with my projector.

From the HD DVD player, you will only get 2.0 Dolby TrueHD at this time, since the player doesn't contain decoders for the full set of channels. At least, that's what I understand from reading all the threads about it. Of course, Rob_HD says that the next firmware update will include 5.1 THD. I have no comment on the possible reliability of his expectations.

Sure, there should be no problem with that. That's the whole reason they put the PCM tracks on : it's a format which needs no decoders, only the DACs [which are there anyway, or the jacks would be dead].

    Neil,
I posted this response in another thread about Blu-ray and PCM 5.1 audio.

On a sidebar, I think you have the Yamaha 2600? If so, can you connect an HDMI input with a 1080I signal and output that same 1080I signal through a component output without it downsizing it from 1080I to 480P/480I?

Didn't even know there were recievers that could read the HD signals?

there aren't any hd audio decoding receivers yet. What this thread is talking about is on board decoders of the Blu-ray and HD-DVD.

Basically, unless you only want 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus there are no players out at this time that really and truly support the new audio formats in full.

You really want to see a player with HDMI 1.3 and an outboard surround processor with the new audio codecs built-in.

I have a question regarding PCM5.1 on blu-ray.... Yes! The old pcm2.0 that was available on laserdisk seems to be more favourable to most people than dd5.1 on dvd. Now that pcm5.1 has come along on blu-ray it makes me wonder just how many channes/speakers can be available on that format... what I mean is, can you achieve the equivalent of dd5.1ex or dts6.1es with the rear centre speaker(s) or are you limited to traditional 5.1 (5 speakers and the sub)? Or does one just simply force the 6.1 by choosing that option on your receiver and hoping for the best?

I have been quietly buying a few blu-ray disks in anticipation later this year of the sony blu-ray player or any decent player that comes along, and biding my time until then. Seems the sony player is a bit of a beast too weighing in about as much as many receivers on the market.

FYI, the BR titles I have are The Fifth Element, House Of Flying Daggers, Terminator, and Stealth.
