DD decoders?

    Would the DD decoder be the same used in a $150 receiver as say a $500 receiver.In other words does Dolby actually build the decoder or just license other manufacturers to build their own versions using Dolby's patents.Just curious.

    The decode itself would be the same. The end product of a Dolby Digital Decoding circuit is a PCM audio stream (multiple ones actually). This means that the sound would only be as good as the DACs and other components in the receiver.
