DBS + OTA to Receiver? (1 Viewer)

I have both Directv and Comcast digital cable running through my Sony Directv box. The DTV box has an optical out which is going to my Receiver. My TV speakers are off, and the sound is handled through the receiver. The thing is, the sound only works for the Directv signal. If I switch the input of the DTV box to OTA, no sound is passed to the receiver. I have to turn the speakers on the tv back on, and the reciever doesn't output anything.

Does anyone know how to get the sound from the OTA signal to be output through the receiver?

I think I got my answer on this. I have to run a stereo out from the TV to a separate input on my AVR. If anyone knows a different way plz let me know.
