Either it's a typo, or they've changed the release date.

As for extras, none were listed.

But don't take my word for it, go to universalstudios.com.

Holy crap! I never thought this DVD would get released! (Shame about the godawful cover though... come back DVDCoverArt! :frowning:)

Someone once told me that the original ending to D&C had everyone driving off a cliff?! I hope that's not true, it's a perfect film as it is!

I sure hope the Criterion Collection DVD happens -- a CC Dazed and Confused would be a dream come true. Too bad we'd probably have to wait until 2006 for it IF it happens...

Didn't Universal already delay this title a few months? What's the big deal about pushing it back a little while longer so all these extras can be included? As much as I'd like to see Criterion get the rights, I'd prefer the $19.99 list price Universal is offering as opposed to paying double that.

just sent off my thoughts. This is a major bummer. Criterion did a great job with Slacker, but $$$$. Slacker was also an underground film. Criterion was the only place it could get special treatment.
Dazed is a cool studio film that deserves better. Looks like I'll continue to break out my laser

Oh geez...I usually sell my original versions of DVDs when a better version is announced. For some reason, I never sold my D&C...thank goodness I didn't.

I am very disappointed! :frowning:

At least the transfer should be improved, Mike! But no commentary, docu, extra scenes, what-have-you...

Just received this email:

Thank you for contacting us regarding 'Dazed and Confused: Flashback
Edition.' The upcoming DVD release is scheduled to include these bonus
features:

- Nine never before seen, deleted scenes
- 'The Blunt Truth' - This combination of some of the best
institutional filmstrips
of the 50's, 60's and 70's focuses on the dangers of the
recreational drug of choice
in 'Dazed and Confused.'
- Retro Public Service Announcements - a nostalgic look at some
of the
Public Service Announcements that aired around 1976, including
'VD is for Everyone'
and 'Crying Indian.'
- Production Notes

Please note that bonus features are subject to change.

We appreciate your input and have forwarded your comments to the
appropriate department.

Sincerely,

Universal Studios Home Video--Consumer Relations

A criterion Dazed and Confused would make me very happy. I have put off buying this movie for far too long.

I will also throw my support for a Criterion edition of this important, influential film. Linklater has proven his bones time and again, he really deserves to be treated better.

Make all the cheese jokes you want, but if the French were still running Universal, they would have mended fences with Linklater a long time ago. They probably would have also extended an olive branch to David Lynch, and we'd have a fighting chance of getting a version integrale of DUNE after all these years. They seem to respect directors.

I would suggest that if Linklater is successful in getting a Criterion version of DAZED, he should also see about finally getting Led Zeppelin's "Rock 'n Roll" over the closing credits as originally intended. Now that he has a much more positive relationship with the band off SCHOOL OF ROCK, I think the climate is good for making this change. After all, Universal finally shelled out for the Springsteen songs Peter Bogdonavich wanted for MASK.
