One reason I'm recommending the JL driver is because it will take full advantage of the large amplifier you will be purchasing. JL might not honor a warranty but if you purchase a genuine JL driver from anywhere, JL will sell you service parts such as voice coils, surrounds etc...

The parts express forum has suggestions of TC sounds woofer builds. Either the JL or TC sounds drivers should take full advantage of the Kiega. Good luck. Forget Dayton...go for the gusto.

Added the filter to the models and they look much better. What else should I be looking for in the winisd graph capability. The only thing at this point I understand to look for is cone excursion and spl graphing. What else here would be important and why. Another note I pulled out my radio shack SLM and with my paradigm ps1000 and watching The Core as it happens to be on right now and at regular volumes to me it is hitting 106db during some rumbles This is with the gain only half up on the sub. I'm hoping I get more out of my new build.

Ok I've been modeling up a bunch of different subs for my project and after weeks of this I think I have come to a conclusion. It looks like I'm going to go with the TC epic 12. Has anyone here worked with one. It looks line I'm going ported with a little over 2.5 cubic foot. Let me know what be think of this sub. Quality, sound etc. Thanks guys

Do you have the analog Rat Shack model? C-weighted? Slow response? You are getting loud on the rumbles but you don't know what frequency. I can help you with test tones and you can map your sub's in-room response.
I have 4 subs based on the same motor structure the Epic uses - the TC 2+. Well, at the time they were sold as the Styke Audio AV12. My cousin-in-law has an Elemental Designs E10K.44 (also built by TC Sounds on the TC2+ motor). It's a proven design. You can use the wayback machine (archive.org) to look at the older SVS site. Their Plus series of drivers with the stamped steel frames were also built on this motor. http://web.archive.org/web/20060204092727/http://www.svsound.com/products-sub.cfm There's a link. You can even clone one of their designs of a box or cylinder sub.

Yeah it is the radio shack analog model same as you describe above. Any help you can give on that would be great! I'll take a look at the links and see what's happening with the enclosures. Thanks again

You can use your SPL meter along with Room EQ Wizard (aka REW) to measure the in-room response of your current sub. There's a pretty steep learning curve with the setup and it may require an external sound card if your laptop's internal one isn't up to par. I took the manual route with http://www.pvconsultants.com/audio/eq/peq.htm , test tones that I generated and my SPL meter. The sine wave frequencies matched the frequencies on that spreadsheet. I then burned the wave files to a CD. Each one about 5 seconds long. The entire measuring process takes about 20 minutes.

I noticed a seller on ebay has a TC sounds subwoofer in the cabinet for buy it now at 300$...That's a pretty stellar deal. I have no connection to the seller. I just thought I'd tell you. Good luck. Hope it works.

You missed a chance http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/speaker-accessories-parts/117444-%2450-pair-2-tc-sounds-tc2-motors.html
The seller worked at AE Speakers so these were original AV series motors. For $75 in recone parts, you could have had a working Epic (with a regular cone instead of an aluminum cone).
Better yet, contact this guy. It's a step up from an Epic since it uses the TC9 motor. http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/12-subwoofers/137681-psi-built-tc9-clone.html I'd bet it is very close to this sub http://www.soundsplinter.com/rlp12_subwoofer_information.html which I have owned. Awesome sound quality.

Since the JL suggestion was thrown out earlier I modeled up the 13w6 13w7 and epic 12 for a comparison for myself. What I saw was interesting. The epic 12 and the 13w6 in ported enclosures preform almost identical up to 600w of power. The epic does have to work harder as it will hit it's Xmax in by modeling with the enclosure i inputted at that point but for value those two subs with that power by the number are pretty much the same. I could put more power to the JL without hitting Xmax due to it's longer excursion but that being said the epic is the better value in my eyes. Now the w7 is a different story. It is a beast. You can pump that thing with a few thousand watts and be good. But you could pick up a couple epics to offset I would believe and it would still be cheaper. The power you would need to get the most out o the w7 would cost $$$.

Subwoofer design is a trade-off and you just found that out. To get a lot of sound out of a small, single sub requires a lot of power and a sub capable of huge amounts of excursion. That costs money. On the other hand, you can use a less expensive sub in a larger enclosure with a smaller, cheaper amp and get the same or better results. A horn loaded sub takes that to an entirely new level. For about $300, you can build a sub that crushes every retail sub on the market but it is the size of a small refrigerator. http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/THT.html

Ok guys when you get some time can you guys model up and epic 12 and a JL 13w6. I have run my models in. 4.5 cubic foot box tuned to 20hz. High pass filter tuned at 18hz. Have ported with 3 x 3" diameter ports. Issue port length get long do I need to change it up? Don't have a problem doing that. But the real question is the only thing I know to look for is cone excursion and spl. Wondering if I'm going to have issues with air velocity and port noise etc with these models. Would it be a better idea to try and tune lower than 20hz. My issue doing this was port length. I guess I could have some "L's" inside in the port. Let me know what you come up with. Thanks in advance guys. I'm not stuck on the 4.5 cubic foot can go smaller or larger. Thanks in advance guys
