I got my copy of the R1 Director's Cut of Dawn Of The Dead remake today and started watching it. Several months ago, I saw screen caps of some of the extended stuff at the Homepage of the Dead forums:

http://www.homepageofthedead.com/cgi...pl?f=7&m=11814

The first pic shows a nude woman stumbling around outside of the bus right before the opening credits, but on my disc, there is a whole smattering of blood on the windshield that covers up any nudity. Is my disc mispressed, or has the R1 release been censored?

There was blood on the windshield, but I clearly saw the naked woman through it.

Here's a cap I just made from my disc:

Compare that to the first cap from the R3 disc at the link above. They are very different.

you're right--they added some digital blood to the windshield to cover up her tits.

...that makes absolutely no sense on an "unrated" dvd

I bought the R3 a couple of months ago, glad that it is completely uncensored even if it is only 10 seconds.

I guess this comes back to the classic MPAA ratings, its fine to blow a persons head clean off their neck but show breasts and be damned.

That's unbelievable. What's the point of this? I mean, it's an *Unrated* feature. We can see heads blowing up, disembowelments, and non-stop blood, gore, and carnage, but a pair of bare breasts is off-limits?
Unless it was a deliberate change by the director, there's really no excuse for it.

First we have to wait 7 and a half months to even get this on DVD (Region 3 got their discs at the end of July) and now it's not even uncut. I don't care if it's only for a brief moment, it's the principle of the thing. Way to go, Universal.

Just watched that part, Canadian one is censored as well. Not even that good, the blood is totally vertical and not even matching with the glass. No reason for this at all, horrible!

So is the Region 3 version the "same" version as the unrated cut (bare breasts aside)? Is the PQ on par with the Region 1 disc? I may just import this if this is the case.

I've seen the R3 cut and the added scenes weren't this dirty. I feel like I'm just complaining about stupid, little things but the added scenes in the R1 edition have dirt all over them and it's easy to spot the new stuff (like one poster has said). The R3 version looked better...I mean this is still a great disc and I'm happy to finally own it. It almost seems as if this cut was made early on and later for the R3 version the blood was removed from the windshield.

Little complaints but I'd still like to hear what Universal has to say about it.

Eh, because of this I just ordered the R3 DVD. I admit it; I am a tool and waste money, but I refuse to have a censored version.

The change makes absolutely no sense. Especially considering that the target audience(which includes me) would probably rather see more breasts than blood.

Well, let me be the first, then, to throw in an "i don't care" here. It certainly didn't detract from my enjoyment in viewing this today (even when I noticed the difference). Censored gore, then I might feel a little different (due to this being a horror film), and it's not as if the scene was entirely cut out.

I can just hear the arguments so allow me to just list them now:
- It's the principle of the thing!
- Allow this to happen, then who knows what they'll do next!
- Damn Universal!

Personally, I'm more annoyed at the forced trailers.
